The five elements of feng shui for beginners

Here, you'll learn about the five elements of feng shui which guide the colors and organization of your feng shui home, designed to peacefully attract the love you desire and nurture you while you wait.

Some feng shui for beginners

After you've used a lopan (compass) and your floor plan to create the bagua (energy map) of your home, the next step is to look at the elements that control each of the eight areas of your home.

Your governing element

Another factor feng shui experts will consider is the governing element of each person who lives in the home according to Chinese astrology.

Here's a free governing elements calculator which is quite detailed. A feng shui practitioner can help you sort it out fully. To keep it simple, I use the element from my year of birth which is the Water Rabbit.

Putting it all together

Think of the elements this way. Each element symbolizes and influences a particular energy in life. For optimal health and abundance, we want a balance of these energies — not too much, not too little.

With the information about your particular space, and those living in it, you can energetically design your home and use furniture and accents that represent that specific element — personalized and balanced for your home and family.

The five elements of feng shui each play a crucial role in enhancing the energy in your most personal space. A skilled feng shui practitioner uses this information to design your home in a way that creates enhanced energy, and which specifically supports each person who lives there.

The five elements of feng shui

Fire

Fire is passion, intuition, inspiration and action, a high energy element. Anything to do with fire inspires our passion from within. So you can imagine what happens when more fire is applied at work, or at play. Not to mention what it does to your sex life! So you definitely want a healthy balance of fire. ☺ It supports feng shui love.

Water

Water is refreshing, cleansing and emotional. It also flows freely, representing abundance and good fortune. In ancient rituals, water is often used as a purifying agent. So using a balance of as one of the five elements of feng shui in your home adds purity, abundance and a sparkling fresh feeling. It also allows emotion to flow in love. Something we all want!

Earth

Earth is all about stability and security. It's also about nurturing and protecting. We know that Mother Earth nurtures all who live on it. The same goes for the earth element in your home — it nourishes and stabilizes each individual who lives there. A warm comfy feeling. Just like a secure, stable soulmate relationship that you can depend on.

Metal

Is metal an element? Well it is, according to the five elements of feng shui. Here, metal symbolizes efficiency, clarity of mind and purpose. When a balance of metal energy is present, your work will feel clear, unencumbered, flow easily and have a well-defined purpose. Which feels great! And as you know from reading this site: we meet our soulmates when we're purposefully on our soul's path.

Wood

Think of trees. They provide oxygen for all living creatures. So it comes as not surprise that the wood element represents physical health. Feng shui healing approaches include the wood element in their composition. Prosperity in your home is also governed by the wood element. Health and prosperity — two desirable energies to have a generous dose of in your home — and in your love life.
