What is feng shui? Why have I included feng shui in the home on The Soulmate Site?
Simply, because everything is energy and we're all connected. So if something in your life's not working, then there's an energetic block, whether it's inside you or around you.
Ultimately, we're here to learn how to love or to raise our energetic vibration. When we dedicate ourselves to doing this each day, not only will we enjoy life more, but (because like attracts like) we'll be more likely to attract our soulmate.
Feng shui in the home organizes and designs the energy in our most intimate spaces to encourage flow, harmony and peace. Fab soulmate vibrations!
So! For you feng shui beginners out there, I'll lead you through some background and basic feng shui tips. Then I'll also touch on feng shui bedroom colors [coming] and feng shui bedroom tips which are important in attracting love.
Feng Shui is a spiritual system that began in ancient China about 3,000 years ago. It's complex, so I won't be covering all the details here, though I will give you some resources you can check out if you want to go further.
Essentially feng shui revolves around the “chi” or energy that surrounds all life. The words feng shui literally mean “wind water”. In China, both concepts are associated with prosperity and good health. Feng shui in the home optimizes your home's life energy. In a given living space, each room has its own energy and is treated separately.
Applied properly, feng shui in the home not only builds harmony and releases energy, but there's also a feng shui healing effect.
Have you ever walked into a place and felt depressed or sad? Something is wrong with the energy when that happens, according to feng shui theory. Forget feng shui, you know it in your gut!
Feng shui ‘cures’ extend to using crystals, essential oils and representations of the five elements to cleanse and bring your home back to a stable energy level.
Practitioners of feng shui use a couple of basic tools to diagnose feng shui in the home.
Practitioners use the lopan to properly divide your home into the eight sections. Knowing what portion of the home is in what area dictates the way you will organize it. The lopan also helps define what colors and feng shui elements need to be represented within each room taking into account which element governs the lives of each person in the house.
Here's more on the five feng shui elements
Complicated, huh? Also fascinating. It's no surprise that practitioner guided recommendations are customized for each client.
There are ways, however, to improve your home's energy on your own... kick starting the creation of a nurturing space for you, and a radiant, welcoming space for your soulmate.
According to feng shui theory, you can affect the energy around you simply by creating a space that is favorable to your life. This involves knowing the five elements of feng shui, feng shui colors and how the energy moves throughout each room in your home.
Here are five feng shui tips to get you started, using the principles of feng shui to create a strong home base — so to speak. Start with one room and work your way around the entire house. Envision your soulmate at the same time!
If you only do one of these feng shui in the home tips, do this!
What kind of energy does your clutter carry? Be honest! Confusion? Sadness? Regret? Frustration? Stress? NOT soulmate friendly — get rid of it!
Hold a yard sale or a swap meet. Donate clothing in good condition to the local charity — I do this a couple of times a year as I live in a wee condo. ☺ This extra stuff inhibits the energy flow throughout your house.
Where everything in your room is placed is also important to energy flow. For optimal feng shui in the home, you want the energy to flow unhindered.
So! Review your furniture — do you really need it all? How does it work together? Resist blocking natural doorways with furniture. Avoid re-cluttering your home with a lot of furniture or accents.
The best rules of thumb? Less is more. Simple changes make a big difference in a feng shui home.
Next, create a bagua or energy map of your home and each room. This is the foundation of feng shui in the home. There are four cardinal points (north, south, east and west) and each one can be further divided (NE, NW, SE and SW). Each area has a governing element and recommended colors. Here are some good directions on mapping the bagua.
Feng shui in the home also takes into consideration everyone living in that home. So get to know the ‘governing element’ of each person you live with.
Here's a free elements calculator which is quite detailed. A feng shui practitioner can help you sort it out fully. To keep it simple, I've use the element from my year of birth which is the Water Rabbit. I also know from my karmic astrology that my path is Cancer in the 12th house (water sign in water house) so this aligns for me. Needless to say, I love blues and silvers.
Once you know your governing element, learn the colors associated with it. Governing elements are great as starting points in bedrooms, creating personalized nourishment and harmony in each person's private space.
To fully embrace feng shui in the home, you'll use all of this information throughout your house to create balance through furniture, artwork, flowers and other features. A feng shui expert can give you further direction as to how much of one color to use in any given space.
